Why we’re here

I originally started this networking group back in 2009, when the U.S. was dealing with a recession and a lot of people I knew had been laid off. And I had lost my job as well.

I’d reached out to some former marketing clients and advertising coworkers to see if they’d want to meet to discuss our job searches. Five of us got together for coffee, and after an hour, I asked if they’d want to meet again. All hands were raised, and we met the next week - with a couple more people who joined us.

We quickly grew to more than 200 members, and I organized 30+ guest speaker presentations. They represented staffing agencies and other companies to present a wide variety of pertinent topics and to make connections.

People learned new things and networked, and job opportunities started being sent to the group to share. That landed me and several other people new roles.

Because of the current job search challenge and the success we had before, we’re starting OCA again.
